Debra Risberg
Debra Risberg, Professional Level Kripalu Yoga teacher RYT500, MFA, Yoga Therapist
Debra is the founder of Main Street Yoga and Healing Arts and has been practicing for over 20 years and teaching for the past 15 years. Her interest in yoga began in High School back in the 70’s after some dancing, orange-robed Hare Krishna’s in Ann Arbor, Michigan handed her a copy of “The Bagavad Gita”. They seemed to be having a good time. Thirty years later she would have the opportunity to visit the Krishna Temple in Mumbai.
Debra is a former Stress Management Specialist for the Dr. Dean Ornish Program. She also practices Anusara Yoga and gives private sessions of Yoga Therapy (a combination of Thai Yoga Therapy, Yoga Asanas and Ayurveda). She was a student of Manohar Harkare (Kakaji) a yoga master from Nagpur, India where she learned the deep practice of Yoga Nidra. She has also studied Yoga Nidra with Richard Miller and has had training with many of today’s top yoga teachers. Debra’s classes range from the gentle and therapeutic to the challenging. She is devoted to working with people in chronic pain and loves teaching yoga and meditation to people in Addiction Recovery. Her desire is to help people discover how yoga, including ayruveda (yogic medicine), meditation, and seva (selfless service) can bring health, happiness and purpose to their lives. Debra, who has an MFA in Visual Art, was formerly a Curator of Contemporary Art, a professional photographer and a graphic designer. She is currently studying Ayurveda with Dr. Ashlesha Raut and preparing to open a clinic at Main Street Yoga in the future. Tonya Keach
Tonya (Cerified in Kripalu Yoga & Prenatal Yoga) has been teaching at Main Street Yoga since 2002. Over the years she has developed many classes that assist students in connecting with and honoring their own inner wisdom. Tonya’s teaching has an emphasis on each person honoring his or her own experiences and noticing shifts of energy.
Her classes blend postures, breathing, chanting, andmeditation to help you cultivate a sense of inner peace as well as harmony with the external world. Tonya’s ever growing amazement in the body’s innate wisdom to heal and be healthy (fostered by her experience in yoga and alternative medicine) inspired Tonya to study energy medicine through a modality called The BodyTalk System. Tonya feels deeply blessed to be offering yoga classes and BodyTalk sessions through Main Street Yoga. Jeffrey Shoaf
Jeffrey has been an avid student of yoga since his first class at Main Street Yoga studios in 2002. He has trained with other Kripalu certified teachers in North Carolina, and at workshops in Toronto, Chicago, and other midwestern cities. He completed his 200 hour Pranakriya Yoga certification in September 2009. Enjoying many styles of hatha yoga, Jeff has been especially inspired by the work of Gary Kraftsow and Eric Schiffmann. Jeffrey has was also certified by YogaFit, and has donated his time as a volunteer, teaching yoga to teenagers in a residential treatment center for recovery from substance abuse. Jeff is currently teaching our popular “Yoga for Men” class, Gentle Yoga and Intermediate classes at Main Street Yoga. He is also teaching workshops at Main Street and on the road including “Yoga for the Lower Back” and “Yoga for the Upper Back”. In addition to his blissful path in becoming a yogi, Jeff is a liscensed and certified massage therapist, practicing deep tissue and myofascial release here at our Healing Arts Center.
